About

Who We Are

Who We Are

The Interdisciplinary Center for the Unknown (ICU) is aimed at fostering global sustainability through regenerative change and futures studies. Designed as an inclusive, collaborative, and voluntary structure, our team comprises scientific researchers, educators, civil servants, poets, artists, and practitioners from planet Earth.

What We Do

What We Do

We develop scientific research, promote education, and perform regenerative change for global sustainability at multiple scales. Our cognitive identity is imaginative, transformative, and regenerative. We are inspired by the complexity of nature and highly committed to safeguard and restore Earth’s life-giving systems. Applying inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary approaches, we think broadly, thoughtfully, and above all, through a long-term lens. Our purpose is to foster understanding of the varied but interdependent components – economic, political, natural, social, epistemological, cultural, technological – that make up the complex global systems in which we all live in order to promote regenerative change.

What We See

What We See

Our shared vision is guided by a holistic understanding of sustainability science and allied regenerative lines of thoughts and practices. We, you, and all of Earth’s life-giving systems are bound together in a great transition towards the unknown future. From the unsettled present we envision achievable paths for a resilient, equitable, and flourishing society at a planetary and extraplanetary scale.
